Freein89, you are so right on the money with this logic!!!
That is the absolute truth about this cult they call 'The Truth'.

one of the paragraphs read that 'if in the area where you live you need higher education after you graduate, then the young person must speak with the parents in order to help them balance the schedule so that he/she doesn't neglect spiritual things'.
alright, i thought, that's a somewhat balanced point of view; i thought, good they're coming along with the times we live in.
yeah, right!!!

A simple HS diploma won't get you a full earning potential. There needs to be some other compliment to that HS diploma. Perhaps not necessarily college, but something else.
Trades schooling (air conditioning, plumbing, electrician, etc.), or EMT/paramedic/Fire school will get you money and a career that you may love and be willing to stick with for life.
Cleaning portable toilets and the like sure gives money, but who the hell would be content with that shitty job???!!!
It's about job satisfaction, my friend. Perhaps the reason why you're using your window cleaning earnings to go to college. All about job satisfaction!!!
I've plenty of friends that make way more money than I do, but their jobs are awful! And here I am dealing with real life issues, meaningful stuff, awesome educated people, great environment; I've found a career/job I really love! What got me here?! An education further than just my HS diploma, thank you very much!
Furthering education is necessary, absolutely necessary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes, only some rare times, I think there's a purpose of my existance inside the WTBTS. It's crap like this that I don't put up with.
I'm very vocal about how important a higher education is, and they can't stop me. Although I have been labeled 'spiritually weak' for this and a few other issues.

Alright, I thought, that's a somewhat balanced point of view; I thought, good they're coming along with the times we live in. Yeah, right!!! That sure didn't last long.
It all got ruined in the last paragraph. Like good politicians, speaking out of both sides of their mouths, they go on to say in the very last paragraph that this young lad joined his father as a window cleaner so that he could continue in a more worthwhile work of pioneering. The pitts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What idiots!!! Now a days, everybody needs educations further than a HS diploma!!!

i finally feel like there is someone out there that understands what i'm going through.
my ex-girlfriend (and still best friend) try to understand but she just can't.
she supports me in being strong but it's just nice to vent to people who have been through the same thing.
Jaredg,
When I was disfellowshipped, my family treated me as if I was dead. It was so awful! I don't know where I found the inner strength to not commit suicide. I mean, I grew up in this org and all my friends, my world was all them, got baptized in my early teens, knew nothing and nobody else that wasn't a Witness.
I came back to the org just so that I could have a decent relationship with my aging parents and siblings. This action has lead me to live a double life for many years now. It drives me insane at times, and other times I'm quite accepting of it because that's what's necessary in order to keep my family.
I'm building a strong network of non-Witnesses friends and renewing my relationship with far relatives that aren't Witnesses themselves. Soon I'll make my final exit and it won't be as traumatic as when I was disfellowshipped in my late teens.
You're not alone. You wouldn't believe the large number of Witnesses that are in there just to keep peace among family, and the large number of teens leading a double life because with all their rules they leave no other choice.

a baptized brother in a local congregation stopped attending meetings months ago.
he hasn't been disfellowshipped, nor has he taken any steps to disassociate himself from the congregation.
he hasn't even been marked or privately reproved - god, i hate this type of cultish lingo, he just stopped attending meetings.
Oh yes. That's called 'marking' a person, and it's a practice done at the private judgement of the individual Witnesses.
Usually a talk will be given, most likely in the 'local needs' and a person or certain persons will be insinuated as being worth of marking because of their actions.
After that talk and insinuations, the person(s) are as good as being disfellowshipped. No more invitations to gatherings, no more close association with other Witnesses, etc.
A truly loving crowd, indeed!

with my phd!
finally after all these long years.
the funny thing tho is that i'm walking through the ceremony, but not getting my diploma... yet.
Wow, Leolaia, congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DY
are you still "in"?
have you altogether stopped attending meetings?
for how long have you been "out"?
Mentally speaking, since the 1914 generation "New Light" came about. Working on being out physically very soon; taking baby steps for now.

so here i am thinking, meditating if you will, on my biblical upbringing; then i came to the conclusion..... it's all about who you know!
even in biblical times.
for real!!!.
Jasmine,
I hear you. It's what goes on in the congregations now a days. Sad, but true.

my husband and i have been married a little over a year now and it has been the happiest year of my life.
i have finally found someone that i truly love and that truly loves me.
he's also my best friend.
My mother said to me....
A man wants a mother in the morning...
A man wants a friend throughout the day...
A man wants a skilled prostitute at night.
Be all those things to a man and you got a man for life!
So far, she's right!!! Even when we disagree in the religion and children issue. I still got him eating out of my hands!
